The Piercing Effects of a Silent Addiction

Most of us understand that indulging in pornography violates our own moral standards, causes marital problems and helps breed lust and adulterous tendencies.  However, what most people don’t understand is the intricacy of the pornographic world.  It’s an easy access world that fosters a “silent addiction with corrosive effects upon one’s life, one’s marriage and one’s children.”1

Most people are unaware that pornography has quickly become the third largest income producer for organized crime in the United States2.  One reliable study found 85% of the profits collected from pornographic videos and magazines goes directly to support organized crime tactics.3  In fact, the very profitable pornography industry is twice as lucrative as the disposable diaper industry!4  Of course, when you mix a twelve billion dollar Internet pornography production with a multi-billion dollar child porn industry, it’s easy to see why pornography is so widespread among our culture today.  Some disturbing reports from the

Attorney General’s Commission of Pornography found that one in five boys and one in ten girls have had their first experience with pornography by the age of twelve.5  And if we believe that the rampant spread of pornography hasn’t affected the mannerisms and actions of societal members, consider this:  the National Victim Center has reported a rape increase of 500% in the United States since 1960- due in part to the increased availability of pornography. next >
